Pentatonix at the LA County Fair

I’ve been a fan of Pentatonix for a while.  I mean, I’m not a die-hard fan, but I’ve always loved and respected their talent.  I’d watch their YouTube videos from time to time, and I told myself that I would have to see them live one day.  Well, “one day” finally happened.

A few months ago, two of our good friends were having dinner with us at our house and brought up Pentatonix.  I mentioned that I loved them, and they told us that the group was performing at the LA Fair in September.  They are HUGE fans, and I was so excited to hear about this.  There’s always a concert series at the LA Fair, but we haven’t paid much attention to who was going to perform this year.  We all decided to go!

We’ve been looking forward to this weekend for a while, but their daughter had caught an illness that then passed on to them, so they had to back out since they were all pretty much held in isolation at home (Ah!  It made me think of all the times our little one will one day get sick and get us sick! Haha).  Sadly, it ended up just being Tristan and myself at the Fair, but we never fail to have fun together.  We had some fair food, then we headed to the show!

If you have no idea who Pentatonix is, they’re an a cappella group that won a season of “The Sing-Off.”  Rightfully so.  They’re 5 talented individuals that seem to have the musical power of an entire choir.  Scroll down to check out some of their music as I’ll share some of my favorite covers from them!

Filharmonic opened for them which was a cool surprise.  I heard about them here and there, but neither of us knew much about them.  They’re an all-Filipino a cappella group that competed on season 4 of “The Sing-Off.”  Awesome thing?  These guys — as well as Pentatonix — are going to be in Pitch Perfect 2!  They sang “All of Me” by John Legend, and it was amaaaazing (check out the official version here!)
I don’t think I can see other artists the same way again.  There is something about this insanely raw talent that’s showcased in a cappela music.  Pentatonix really blew us away.  I mean, they blew me away on YouTube.  Live?  They’re phenomenal.
There’s no overwhelming band or autotune masking the talent.  There was one instance where they had an instrument.  One of their members was actually recruited off of YouTube because they needed a beat boxer, but the guy they found is not only a beat boxer.  He beat boxes along with playing his cello (check this out).  No denying this guy is passionate and incredibly talented – he came out with his cello and played it for a song.  Other than that, no instruments necessary for the show.
Some of my favorite covers from them:
Problem – Ariana Grande: Click here
Say Something – Great Big World & Christina Aguilera: Click here
The Evolution of Beyonce – Beyonce Medley: Click here
The Evolution of Music – Medley: Click here
Enjoy the videos and hope you’ve found yourself a new fan of this incredible group!
