[foodventures] Grand Central Market

Grand Central Market is one of those places in downtown that has evolved so much so quickly.  Almost 5 years ago, Tristan and I took our engagement photos here (our session was all over downtown), and every time I’ve visited since then, something is different.  It’s become such a hub for new and interesting food.  Some might say it’s gotten pretty hipster.

Last night, Tristan and I offered to head downtown to drop my mom-in-law off at Union Station, so to help us pass the time and wait for traffic to die down before heading home, we decided to drop by Grand Central Market for some fooding.

Things have changed so much.  I feel like there’s less produce and a lot more hip restaurant stalls, and it really made it difficult to figure out what to eat!  We ended up eating a few things, but, if anything, McConnell’s is a must – that is, if you’re an ice cream lover.  I was actually really looking forward to trying this vegan ramen spot, but of course it was closed.  I guess that’s all the more reason to come back sooner!

Anyway, here’s some photos of our quick visit.  If you’re ever in DTLA, make sure you make a stop here, and come hungry!

Off to pick out a cheese!

At McConnell’s, get the salted caramel chip (our go-to) and the churros con leche (new fave).  Hubby is having some super-filled pork tacos.

I have to mention it’s not the most toddler-friendly spot.  Haha.  He is just so wiggly now!  Dominic did, however, have fun looking at all of the different lights and saying “hi” to everyone that waved to him.  There’s an upper area that plays music, and he did a little dancing for people there too 🙂  I can’t keep this little man still anymore!  He just wanted to run around and run into all of the stalls.  It was a workout, but I do see it being more kid-friendly (as in the 6+ group).  There’s plenty of tables around, and with the huge variety of options from burgers to ramen, everyone is bound to find something they’d like to try!
